Visions and Dreams

The theme of the 45th General Council (GC45) of The United Church of Canada has been selected by The Right Rev. Dr. Carmen Lansdowne: Visions and Dreams

"‘In the last days it will be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your children shall prophesy, and your young people shall see visions, and your elders shall dream dreams.”—Acts 2:17 

"Then afterward I will pour out my spirit on all flesh; your children shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your elders shall see visions."—Joel 2:28 

GC45 Logo Design

The logo beautifully encapsulates the theme:

  1. Dove: Represents the Holy Spirit being poured out upon all flesh, symbolizing divine presence and guidance.
  2. Mountains: Signify stability and endurance, reflecting the steadfastness of God’s promises.
  3. Waves: Represent life, purity, and cleansing, aligning with the transformative power of the Spirit.
  4. Rainbow: Symbolizes hope, promise, and diversity, illustrating the inclusivity of God’s outpouring on all people.

These elements create a powerful visual narrative of prophecy, visions, and dreams inspired by divine intervention.

Logo and Theme in Stoney Nakoda

General Council 45 will take place in Calgary, Alberta. Calgary is located in the heart of Southern Alberta, the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, which include the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations). The City of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta (Districts 5 and 6).

The theme of GC45 has been translated into the Stoney Nakoda language. The Stoney Nakoda people are the closest Indigenous community with ties to The United Church of Canada, and they will be hosting the Sacred Fire in Morely, AB throughout GC45. We acknowledge and lift up their voices and knowledge by offering our theme logo and its theological grounding in the Stoney Nakoda language.
