GC35 Bovine Somatotropin (1994B575)

Having considered that not all persons, including dairy farmers, are opposed to the use of the bovine growth hormone known as Bovine Somatotropin (BST); and,

WHEREAS the motion proposes action that is in keeping with the ongoing work of The United Church of Canada; and

WHEREAS the voice of the Church will serve to balance the presentation made to the government by agribusiness interests;

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the 35th General Council of The United Church of Canada:

  1. Commend the Federal Government for the year-long moratorium presently in place on the use of the drug Bovine Somatotropin.

  2. Encourage the government to extend the moratorium for an additional five years to facilitate independent study on the impact of the use of this drug on all creation."

Resolution of the NEW05 Indigenous Sovereignty Proposal

On Nov. 8, members of the Executive of the General Council had a special meeting to discuss recommendations about NEW05 Indigenous Sovereignty Proposal. They affirmed the recall of the National Indigenous Spiritual Gathering (NISG) to determine the future of the Indigenous Church.
