GC36 National Childcare (1997N113)

WHEREAS according to Jesus, children have a particular significance in the reign of God, and 

WHEREAS Canada has signed the Universal Declaration of the Rights of the Child, and 

WHEREAS the lack of affordable, accessible, and quality childcare is a contributing factor to Canada's high child and family poverty rates, and 

WHEREAS a quality childcare system can be a key factor in childhood development, and 

WHEREAS an investment in children is a financially, educationally, and socially sound investment by society 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Thirty-sixth General Council to call upon the Government of Canada to implement a National Childcare Program which provides affordable, accessible, and quality childcare.

Resolution of the NEW05 Indigenous Sovereignty Proposal

On Nov. 8, members of the Executive of the General Council had a special meeting to discuss recommendations about NEW05 Indigenous Sovereignty Proposal. They affirmed the recall of the National Indigenous Spiritual Gathering (NISG) to determine the future of the Indigenous Church.
