Greetings to the UCC GC44
United Church of Canada Partner CouncilGreetings to the UCC General Council 44
October 2024
Dear Friends in Christ,
It is with great joy and deep gratitude that we bring warm greetings on behalf of the Partner Council. As we gather in this space, our role remains to weave the global fabric of faith, wisdom, and action. Our council members—Rev. Kangwa Mabuluki, Mrs. Annie Namala, Mr. Samer Laham, Mr. Marcelo Leites, and Mr. Horacio Mesones—bring stories and experiences from every corner of the world, reminding us of the beautiful diversity within God's creation.
In this time of social, political and economic challenges, the United Church of Canada’s dedication to building and sustaining global partnerships is remarkable. It reflects a deep commitment to the belief that, together, we can witness together the Realm of God on Earth, pooling our collective resources, talents, and visions for a just and compassionate world.
These past months, our council has shared rich discussions, with a focus on the deep scars left by climate change—scars that are visible in hunger, displacement, and the unraveling of communities. We lament the gaps between promises made and actions taken, particularly around climate commitments. However, we celebrate the UCC’s continued resolve to fight for climate justice, a struggle that echoes through every corner of the globe and connects us all in our care for God’s creation.
Earlier this year, in May 2024, and following up this process in September, we came together to explore and evolve the Roundtable initiative that began in 2023. Our aim is to reimagine power dynamics from a decolonized lens, fostering shared leadership and equitable decision-making among partners. A key element of this work is what we have come to call mutual radical accompaniment—a practice that invites us all to walk together in faith, listening to one another, and ensuring that every voice is not only heard but empowered.
As we carry this work forward, the theme Mending the World serves as both an anchor and a guide, with climate justice as the doorway to broader issues like migration, peace, and gender equality. We know that healing our world requires a holistic approach—one that nurtures the spirit, respects creation, and seeks to repair the deep divides we face.
We are deeply encouraged by the United Church of Canada’s leadership and commitment to this shared vision. As we move forward in partnership, we look with hope towards a future where, together, we can mend the world and bring God’s peace, justice, and love to all.
May this General Council be filled with wisdom, courage, and the Spirit’s guidance as we walk this path together.
In faith and solidarity,
The United Church of Canada Partner Council
