GC45 GC45 WF25: COM04 Elected or Not for Summer 2025 A majority of discussion groups discussed this proposal. A minority of groups supported this proposal as is. In particular there was little support for the idea that the action of GC 45 on June 28th of approving the nominations slate was ultra vires. There was general support for the need to clarify our language to align with our current practice, while upholding our broader goal of diversity and gifts and the decision of the 43rd General Council. The 43rd General Council agreed to a nominations process that would ensure that appointments to committees and the GCE reflected diverse skills, talents, cultural backgrounds, and geographic representation. This goal could not be effectively achieved through a standard election process, including calls to the floor, which would undermine the intention of having diverse candidates. Therefore, the Way Forward Team proposes: That, in response to COM04 Elected or Not, the 45th General Council, 2025, Take no further action on COM04 Elected or Not, and Refer the broader issue of clarity of language with respect to electing or appointing to the General Secretary to propose revisions to section D.4.6.2(d) and any other relevant sections, ensuring they are consistent with the Basis of Union while preserving the equity commitments approved by the 43rd General Council (2018).
