The Governance Handbook provides guidance for the General Council, its Committees, its Executive, the Committees of the Executive, and the Sub-Executive. It provides a helpful reference document that outlines the expectations and duties of elected leaders along with the mandate of different groups. The current version (last completely reviewed in January 2020) needs updating.

We believe God/Jesus/Holy Spirit is calling us into continued concrete relationships with partners. One manifestation of this commitment is The United Church of Canada Partner Council. The term of the current Partner Council 2025-2028 ends with the rise of the 46th General Council. The appointment of this new member is to replace a previously-approved member on the current Partner Council, bringing in a Global Ecumenical and social justice perspective.
The Pension Board recommends that the General Council Executive approve the enclosed Governance Policy for The Pension Plan of The United Church of Canada (the Plan).
The second General Council 1926 adopted By-Law Number 126 of The United Church of Canada (United Church) with respect to the Seal of the United Church.
The General Council Executive have approved a ten-year strategic direction under the banner of Toward 2035, as well as three 3-year strategic objectives related to Growth, Justice and Leadership. In order to be accountable to the approved direction and objectives, we need to agree on key metrics to assist in measuring results, related to the direction and the objectives. These strategic public metrics, limited in number, will be complemented by other metrics used by staff to ensure activities are reaching desired outcomes.
The meetings of the General Council follow a pattern: central Canada (GC 41 Ottawa); eastern Canada (GC 42 Corner Brook), central Canada (GC 43 Oshawa), western Canada (GC 45 Calgary). In 2023, Horseshoe Falls Regional Council offered to host the next central Canada General Council. The General Council Executive accepted this invitation and confirmed Deborah Laforet as Chair of the Planning Committee.
On November 16, 2025 marks an historic event in Palestine -- the release of Kairos Palestine II: “A Moment of Truth: Faith in a Time of Genocide.” Palestinian Christians initiate a theological and political declaration about their lived reality and addresses the global ecumenical family.
