GC30 Confessing Our Faith in a Nuclear Age (1984C557)

WHEREAS the 1983 Assembly of the World Council of Churches in Vancouver called upon all member churches to “intensify their efforts to develop a common witness in a divided world, confronting with renewed vigour the threats to peace and survival and engaging in struggles for justice and human dignity,” and

WHEREAS the 29th General Council adopted a policy statement declaring that “the arms race runs counter to the gospel”:

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT:

The 30th General Council through its Secretariat affirm the World Council of Churches’ declaration: “that the production and deployment, as well as the use of nuclear weapons are a crime against humanity and that such activities must be condemned on ethical and ethological grounds,” and in support of this affirmation, through the “Confessing our Faith” project, we continue to point congregations to the wide range of print and audio-visual resources available through the United Church and coalitions.
