GC32 Cruise Missile Testing (1988C653)

WHEREAS our Lord saw peace-making as a distinctive characteristic of his followers (Matthew 5:9); and

WHEREAS he showed anguish when the ways of peace were not learned (Luke 19:42); and

WHEREAS the government of Canada has repeatedly stated that it supports a Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty for the nuclear-armed nations; and

WHEREAS the cruise missile now being flight-tested in Canadian air space is being withdrawn from Europe under terms of the INF Treaty:

THEREFORE be it resolved that the 32nd General Council urge the government of Canada to prohibit the testing of cruise missiles over Canadian territory.
