GC43 or earlier GC42 United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples as a Framework for Reconciliation (2015-11-21-022) That the Executive of the General Council, in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Call to Action 48 (text below):formally adopt the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and comply with its principles, norms, and standards as a framework for reconciliation;create a Task Group comprising:a representative from each of the Aboriginal Ministries Council; Committee on Indigenous Justice and Residential Schools; Permanent Committee on Finance Accountability; Permanent Committee on Governance and Agenda; Permanent Committee on Ministry and Employment Policies and Services; Permanent Committee on Program for Mission and Ministry; and the Theology and Inter-Church Interfaith Committee;a representative from ANCC and two other Conferences;the General Secretary;the Executive Minister, Aboriginal Ministries Circle and Indigenous Justice and other resource staff as required; andgive direction to the Task Group to:develop and implement a process to engage the whole church in complying with this Call to Action, providing a mechanism with which to assess compliance; anddevelop, by March 31, 2016, as recommended by the commission, a statement to the Canadian public indicating how the Church is living out this call, and a format for ongoing reporting.
