Whereas the House of Commons did not take into consideration on Bill C 86 by the Senate Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Sciences and Technology; and
Whereas the Senate Committee’s recommendations reflect the recommendations of ICCR, Amnesty International, the Canadian Bar Association and UNHCR representative to Canada in briefs presented to the Senate Committee and the House of Commons Committee; and
Whereas allegations made by former members of the Immigration and Refugee Board regarding improper conduct and undue pressure to render less than independent decisions question the credibility of refugee claimant decisions made by the Board;
Therefore be it resolved that this Executive of General Council call on the Senate of Canada to hold full and formal public hearings on Bill C86, and
Call for a full and independent public inquiry into allegations and criticism as mentioned above, and
Ask the minister of Employment and Immigration to suspend orders of deportation of rejected refugee claimants until the conclusions of the inquiry have been made public.
