Welcome on board

Katherine describes herself as a mom and a minister serving on southern Vancouver Island. Her ministry is centred on creative cross-generational opportunities. She is passionate about new forms of ministry while steeped in the traditions that shaped United Church of Canada.

“The United Church of Canada is in the liminal time of ending the way things ‘have always been,’ and participating in the birth of new ways the Spirit is moving us to ministry and being Christ's body for such a time as this,” she says. “Liminal space is often both scary and exciting, which is exactly the kind of spaces ministry is called to bring our ritual, tradition, stories and faith.”

Katherine brings a deep understanding of the United Church across many regions, both rural and urban, from her experience serving in congregations in Saskatchewan, Toronto, and British Columbia. She sees that the Spirit is alive and active and breathing new life into beautiful ways of being the United Church for this time and place.

She adds, “For me, the opportunity to serve on the General Council Executive is one way to live into my commitment to deeply engage with both the struggle and the gifts of being a truly Canadian church as we navigate this time together.

Katherine fills the vacancy left on the Executive when Kathy Brett was unable to complete this final portion of her six-year term. Katherine was selected for this appointment out of a consideration of submissions that had come forward in other recent calls for the Executive this term. Katherine will serve the remainder of Kathy’s term, which is until General Council 45, in August 2025.
