Greetings and the peace of Christ be with you, from Horseshoe Falls Regional Council, AKA HFRC. We are located in the Southern Ontario, including the Niagara Peninsula, and the western shores of Lake Ontario. Our geographical location has allowed us to share resources, mainly in the way of paid regional council staff, with Antler River Watershed and Western Ontario Waterways Regional Councils. This arrangement has allowed all three Regional Councils to have staff specialized in social justice, faith formation, right relations, and ministry pastoral support. Our last report was made to GC 44 in 2022.
The Indigenous Church has been on a journey that has been full of incredible moments of growth, renewal, and challenges. Our journey has been full of a deep and profound commitment to who we are as Indigenous people within the United Church of Canada. Through this time of growth and renewal, the Elders of the Indigenous Church have journeyed alongside the staff of Indigenous Ministries and Justice (IMJ) so that we can continue serving our communities and determine a path forward.
The Judicial Committee consists of up to nine members, reflecting the diversity of the United Church with attention to equity commitments. Membership includes both laypeople and ministry personnel from across the church’s geography. At least four members must be specialists with legal or administrative tribunal experience.
KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives is a program of the United Church of Canada that functions as a joint social venture bringing ten Canadian church denominations and agencies to work together for faithful action for justice and peace. Under the direction of The United Church of Canada, the KAIROS Steering Committee, composed of representatives of the member churches and agencies, administers the program. Launched in 2001, KAIROS carries the legacy of over forty years of inter-church social justice coalitions.
Living Skies Regional Council is The United Church of Canada in the treaty territories of Saskatchewan. Living Skies Regional Council (LSRC) of The United Church of Canada has actively embodied its commitment to "Deep Spirituality, Bold Discipleship, and Daring Justice” in this last triennium.
The Manual Committee typically consists of six members. Currently, there are five appointed members.
What an honour it has been to serve The United Church of Canada as Moderator over the past three years. And what a Deep, Bold, and Daring time it has been. As we prepare to gather in Calgary and across the country to discern the work of the 45th General Council and elect our 45th Moderator, my prayers will be with the church that we might be faithful disciples in that work. This won’t be a play by play accounting of my activities – but a faithful reflection of what I’ve heard and learned along the way in my journey as your 44th Moderator.
The Moderator’s Advisory Committee (MAC) is a group of people from across the church who gathered to walk with the Moderator intentionally and prayerfully; we have spent the past three years praying for and providing advice, support and assistance as we could.
The General Council needs to elect and authorize members to serve on the General Council Executive which is accountable to the General Council.
The work of the General Council is dependent on various appointed and elected bodies serving on its behalf. The church is enriched by the participation of its members, sharing together their many and diverse gifts.
