On behalf of General Council, the Audit Committee has carried out its assigned duties from 2019 through 2023, adjusting for pandemic related constraints.
This report serves as an accountability measure and offers an overview of the church’s overall work on anti-racism and equity from the perspective of the General Council Office.
Among the duties of the Audit Committee of the General Council is to review the annual financial statements and the reports from the auditors, as well as recommending approval of the financial statements to the appropriate governance bodies.
The principles of UNDRIP are resonant in the National Indigenous Church’s proposal to General Council 44 on creating a new national Indigenous organization, and in the remit supporting this. A significant investment of time has been made in preparing materials to support the remit as a commitment to UNDRIP.
The policy regarding financial support for ministry personnel (The Manual J.6.7) lacks flexibility and discretion of application.
We believe God/Jesus Christ/the Holy Spirit is calling the church to recognize the lifelong call to ministry and faithful service in response to that call of many current Designated Lay Ministers. While their practice of ministry is indistinguishable from that of ordered ministers in the eyes of many church members, DLMs have been frustrated, hurt and disappointed at continuing to be limited to appointments and not eligible for call, paid at lower minimum salary schedule than ordered ministers, and retaining no status as ministry personnel between appointments and in retirement in many regional councils.
